The Fuji apple was first developed in Fujisaki, Aomori, Japan in the late 1930's then was brought to market in 1962. It is a cross between two American apple varieties, the Red Delicious and old Virginia Ralls Genet (sometimes cited as "Rawls Jennet") apples.  Even with its American roots, the Fuji apple owes its name to the Japanese landscape where it was developed: "FUJIsaki" and Mt. Fuji.

Also known as physalis, Cape Gooseberries are small, smooth round fruit wrapped in its own papery husk or “cape” which lends to its name. Golden Berries are actually Cape Gooseberries with the husk removed and both are available year round.

Kiwi is native to southern China and is declared the “National Fruit” of the People’s Republic of China.  Cultivation spread from China in the early 20^th century when seeds were introduced to New Zealand.  Italy is now the leading producer followed by New Zealand, Chile, France, Greece, Japan and the U.S. 

The Pomegranate was originally grown around the middle east and Asia but is now found in several US locations and other global locations as long as it’s growing in a humid Mediterrean-style type of climate.

Pomegranates are best known for their nutrition and high levels of anti-oxidants, higher than Green Tea, Cranberries and even red wine.
